Raffaello Sanzio

Raffaello Sanzio, known in English as Raphael (Urbino, 1483 - Rome, 1520), was one of the greatest painters and architects of the High Renaissance. Admired for the harmony of his compositions, the grace of his figures, and the clarity of his spatial construction, he became a model of classical balance for later generations. His frescoes in the Vatican and his Madonnas are among the masterpieces of Western art.
