Carracci, Annibale

Annibale Carracci (Bologna, 3 November 1560 - Rome, 15 July 1609) was an Italian painter. Reacting against the exhausted formulas of late Mannerism, he sought to recover and renew the great Italian painting tradition of the early sixteenth century. Raphael, Michelangelo, Parmigianino, Correggio, Titian, and Veronese all influenced his work. Together with Caravaggio, he helped lay the foundations of Italian Baroque painting and is regarded as one of its leading fathers.
