Bruegel, Pieter - The Elder

Bruegel, Pieter - The Elder
Pieter Bruegel, or Brueghel, known as Pieter Bruegel the Elder (Breda, c. 1525-1530 - Brussels, 5 September 1569), was a Flemish painter. A central theme of his work is meditation on humanity, especially peasant life, observed in everyday episodes with extraordinary precision and without idealization. His figures often appear awkward, flawed, and deeply human, set in a world far from idyllic. Grotesque elements and caricature in his art are never ends in themselves, but symbols of human weakness, often tempered by measured irony.
