Fabritius, Carel

Carel Fabritius (Middenbeemster, 1622 - Delft, 12 October 1654) was a Dutch painter and one of the most original artists of the Delft school. A pupil of Rembrandt, he moved beyond his master's manner toward a brighter palette, subtle atmospheric effects, and a striking sense of spatial illusion. Though his surviving oeuvre is small, he is considered a key figure in seventeenth-century Dutch painting.
