Berentz, Christian

Christian Berentz (Hamburg, 1658 - Rome, 1722) was a German painter. Active first in Hamburg, he moved to Rome in the mid-1680s, where he received numerous commissions from the local aristocracy and remained until his death. A specialist in still life, he absorbed aspects of Roman Baroque painting while preserving the northern taste for precious detail and the careful, analytical rendering of objects, often including refined crystal vessels in his compositions.
