Van Wittel, Gaspar

Gaspar van Wittel, also known as Vanvitelli (1653-1736), was a Dutch-born painter active mainly in Italy. He was one of the pioneers of Italian topographical view painting, especially in Rome and Naples. His vedute combine accuracy, clarity, and an early modern sense of urban space, paving the way for later masters of the genre.
