Giotto di Bondone

Giotto di Bondone (c. 1267-1337) was an Italian painter and architect and one of the most decisive innovators in Western art. By giving greater weight, emotion, and spatial coherence to painted figures, he helped move beyond the conventions of Byzantine art and opened the path toward the Renaissance. His work transformed the visual language of the Trecento.
