Ciolina, Giovanni Battista

Giovanni Battista Ciolina (born in Toceno on 15 May 1870, died there on 29 May 1955) was an Italian painter. From an early age he trained in the artistic culture of the Vigezzo Valley and was shaped in particular by Enrico Cavalli, later also attending the Academy in Venice. A prolific painter, draftsman, and etcher, he worked across many genres while remaining faithful to an Impressionist sensitivity and to a deep love of landscape. The Vigezzo Valley was his preferred world, rendered with broad, vital brushwork and an intimate, lyrical naturalism.
