Boldini, Giovanni

Giovanni Boldini (Ferrara, 31 December 1842 - Paris, 11 January 1931) was an Italian painter. Initially guided by his father and later drawn toward the Macchiaioli in Florence, he soon developed a brilliant and refined personal style. After leaving Italy, he achieved fame in London and, above all, in Paris, where he became one of the great portraitists of high society. His rapid drawing, vibrant color, and audacious brushwork perfectly captured the elegance and nervous energy of the Belle Epoque.
