Segantini, Giovanni

Giovanni Segantini (Arco, 15 January 1858 - Mount Schafberg, 28 September 1899) was an Italian painter and one of the greatest exponents of Divisionism. After a difficult childhood, he studied at Brera and gradually developed a highly personal art centered on light, landscape, and symbolist feeling. His mature works, often painted in the Alps, combine divisionist technique with a deeply poetic and pantheistic vision of nature. He achieved wide acclaim across Europe during his lifetime.
