Grimshaw, John Atkinson

John Atkinson Grimshaw (Leeds, 6 September 1836 - Leeds, 13 October 1893) was an English painter famous for nocturnes, moonlit streets, docks, and poetic urban landscapes. His works are admired for their atmospheric effects, meticulous detail, and evocative handling of light reflected on wet pavements, water, and misty air. He occupies a distinctive place in Victorian painting.
