Constable, John

John Constable (1776-1837) was an English landscape painter and a major figure of Romantic art. He devoted much of his work to the countryside of Suffolk and southern England, studying skies, weather, and the living structure of nature with unusual directness. His natural, deeply observed landscapes had a lasting impact on European painting.
