Osthaus, Karl Ernst
Karl Ernst Osthaus (Hagen, 15 April 1874 - Meran, 25 March 1921) was not primarily a painter but an influential German collector, patron, and cultural reformer. Founder of the Folkwang Museum, he played a decisive role in promoting modern art in Germany and in supporting artists, design, and new artistic ideas at the turn of the twentieth century.
