Batoni, Pompeo

Pompeo Batoni (Lucca, 25 January 1708 - Rome, 4 February 1787) was an Italian painter and one of the foremost portraitists of the eighteenth century. Active in Rome, he attracted an international clientele, especially Grand Tour travelers, and also produced important religious and mythological works. His art joins classical clarity, polished execution, and elegant grandeur.
