Sandro Botticelli, born Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi (Florence, c. 1445 - Florence, 17 May 1510), was one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance. Trained in Florence, he developed an unmistakable style based on elegant line, rhythmic movement, and refined poetic feeling. He is celebrated for mythological masterpieces such as Primavera and The Birth of Venus, as well as for deeply expressive religious works. His art became one of the supreme symbols of Florentine Quattrocento painting.
