William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a French academic painter. Renowned for his refined technique, polished surfaces, and idealized treatment of the human figure, he achieved great success with mythological, religious, and sentimental subjects. He became one of the most emblematic painters of nineteenth-century academic art.
