Turner, William

Joseph Mallord William Turner (London, 23 April 1775 - Chelsea, 19 December 1851) was an English painter and one of the greatest masters of landscape in Western art. Starting from topographical precision, he developed an increasingly daring language centered on light, atmosphere, and elemental force. His late works, with their dissolving forms and radiant color, anticipated major directions of modern painting.
